North Street Quarter demolition expected to start soon

An article in The Sunday Times has confirmed that demolition is expected to start on the Lewes North Street Quarter site this spring.

A recent article in The Sunday Times has confirmed that demolition is expected to start on the North Street Quarter site in Lewes this spring, clearing the way for the construction of more than 400 homes and new business space on the former Phoenix Industrial Estate. ‘Lewes: the battle to build new homes’, written by journalist High Graham, includes interviews with Clive Wilding from the development company, Phoenix Rising campaigner Chelsea Renton and representatives from Lewes District Council.

The article concludes “more towns need to follow Lewes’s lead” even though “most locals won’t be able to buy there”, and ends with a stark warning that “unless the government builds en masse, or Brexit deflates the property bubble, every town in the southeast will become a repository for Londoners, and the eccentric spirit that made Lewes Lewes will be lost.”

We interviewed Clive Wilding in our February 2016 podcast and spoke to Chelsea Renton in January 2016.
